Update

August 16, 2009

Even though we toiled this unusual summer sporting umbrellas and cold weather gear, we have checked many of our original painted blazes. They are in great shape, due in no small part to the paint, disabled-parking blue.

We also did the indoor work using Google Earth to divide the trail into 36 sections, each estimated at a day’s walk, roughly 10 miles.  Please look at the updated About the Hudson Trail page at the upper right of the screen. Please comment.

Latest Plans on Google Earth Community

July 5, 2007

The latest plans for the Hudson trail are posted in the Google Earth Community Environment Forum. Please examine and comment.

We are updating this route. In particular, we have made changes in the Pine Plains area based on discussions with the Friends of Stissing Landmarks (July 24).

Planning the route

April 15, 2007

We are using Google Earth (a downloadable program) to plan out the route of the Hudson Trail. This picture shows a screen shot.

start of Hudson Trail

We have uploaded the plans for the first trek (there are 4 in all) to Google Earth Community forums under Sports and Hobbies. You can get to this posting by putting into google the keywords: google earth community hudson trail

The post includes links to the plans using Google Earth and Google Maps. The Google Earth way is better, but you need to download and install the free program.

Alternately, anyone wishing to examine and make suggestions on the route could send a message to headhood@gmail.com and we can send a copy of the Google Earth folder.
