Hudson Trail marking
Hudson Trail Marking Guidelines
The markers on the Hudson Trail will take several forms. All markers will be light blue in color, 3 inches by 3 inches, diamond shape. Some markers will contain the orange H T monogram.
For the trails already marked, the exact blazing for the Hudson Trail will be whatever the responsible organization decides is appropriate. The Friends of the Hudson Trail are committed to a minimalist style of blazing. Trails already marked blue and traversed by the Hudson Trail need no further marking. On other trails, Hudson Trail markers would be erected at road and trail junctions.
Westchester County Parks only allow paint on the trees for marking trails. Consequently, the HT marking in the County parks is a rough square or diamond of blue, with some markers having the HT logo. In contrast, New York State Parks specifies metal or plastic marks. We use the Voss marker shown below which you also can see in many of the photos.

When working on the Old Croton Aqueduct, we do come across older markers (1970s), as shown here.

It is hoped that at the ends of the treks and other major landmarks, more extensive signage could be employed, such as kiosks with contact information for the Friends of the Hudson Trail amd maps of the trek.
